Busy paperwork day around the NHL on Wednesday. Nothing flashy, but a bunch of small moves that really matter when you're running a pool team. Let's go through them.
Logan Thompson is back in Washington
The Capitals activated Logan Thompson off injured reserve and loaned Mitch Gibson to the Hershey Bears. The team also previewed his expected return in net Wednesday night against the Flyers, with defenseman Jack St. Ivany added to the lineup.
Pool take: if you stashed Thompson while he was hurt, slide him back into your lineup. Now that he's healthy, his starts should come back.
Joseph Woll starts for Philly, Bunting sits
The Flyers confirmed Joseph Woll as their starter against Washington. Jacob Gaucher draws in and Michael Bunting comes out.
Pool take: keep an eye on Bunting. If he stays in the press box, he's a zero in daily formats.
Penguins shuffle: Soderblom to IR, Brazeau on a conditioning stint
Pittsburgh placed Elmer Soderblom on injured reserve, so he's out at least a week. Justin Brazeau was activated but heads to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on a conditioning loan after missing the whole season so far with a foot injury. Avery Hayes and Chase Pietila were sent back to the AHL too. Daily Faceoff notes those moves could set up returns for Samuel Girard and Ben Kindel, though nothing is official yet.
Pool take: Brazeau put up a career best 34 points in 64 games last season. Keep him on your radar in deep leagues, he could be back in a useful role soon.
Kyle Capobianco out at least a week in Dallas
Coach Glen Gulutzan said Kyle Capobianco will miss at least a week with a lower-body injury. The good news is that Sam Steel looks likely to return Thursday against Montreal. David Perron still isn't ready to play.
Pool take: Capobianco has no points in five games, so it's a small loss. Steel (3 points in 10 games) is back in the conversation as a bench depth option.
Two defensemen on waivers: Soucy and Crotty
Carson Soucy (Columbus) and Cameron Crotty (Ottawa) were placed on waivers, as Elliotte Friedman and PuckPedia reported. In Ottawa, Bruce Garrioch says Thomas Chabot is ready to go Thursday. In Columbus, Mark Scheig points out the move opens a roster spot for Ivan Provorov to come off IR.
Pool take: the real story here is Chabot. A puck-moving defenseman coming back is worth a quick look at your free agent list. Same for Provorov if your league counts ice time and blocked shots.
